The body of an off-duty police officer was recovered at a Colorado state park hours after he was reported missing, authorities confirmed.
The Pueblo Police Department identified the victim as Cpl. Stephen Biggs, reporting that he was in a wakeboarding accident on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Lake Pueblo State Park in Pueblo County.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) said in a post on X Sunday that its officers were searching for a missing person in “the area of Peck Creek/west-central area of” the park following a single boat incident. The report came in at about 5:30 p.m., local time.
The following day, CPW announced that its marine evidence recovery team found the missing person at about 2 a.m. using towable side-scan sonar in the main channel just east of Peck Creek Cove. The body of the victim, who was in 48 feet of water, was recovered 45 minutes later with the assistance of a remotely operated vehicle.
