Father and 3 Children Between 5 and 12 Years Old Die in Utah House Fire: ‘Devastating Loss’

According to CBS affiliate KUTV 2, those being treated for injuries, including the mother and sixth child, were still in the hospital as of Thursday night.

Authorities have not formally identified the victims, but Riverdale Fire Chief Matt Hennessy told KUTV that a father and his three children, ages 5 to 12, died in the blaze.

“They’re just an amazing family. From mom and dad all the way down to the littlest ones,” Neighbor Derek Henderson said, per the outlet.

Another neighbor described the family as “selfless.”

“They took in family members as their own and supported them and loved them,” Kent told the outlet. “The loss of parts of the family are really going to be hard for the neighbors to grasp.”

Hundreds of community members filled a local church to hold a vigil for the family, which lasted around two hours, on Thursday.

Bishop David Messina revealed that he was close to the father who died in the fire.

“This family was a salt of the earth family,” he told KUTV. “The father was a great friend of mine and just a good, good man. We’re all heartbroken and deeply shocked by this tragic loss.”
