Weather turns in the Netherlands: sturdy showers and code yellow in large parts of the country

Anyone who has plans to go outside today or tonight would be wise to keep a close eye on it again. According to the KNMI, the Netherlands is facing a turbulent weather change. In several provinces, we are warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms that can be accompanied by hail, gusts of wind and local rainfall in a short time.

The situation can change quickly locally, making it important to be prepared and to be flexible with outdoor activities.

From summer to turbulent weather
The day started in many places still quiet and pleasant, but in the course of the afternoon the weather clearly changes. The atmosphere becomes more unstable, creating the ideal conditions for the formation of showers.

The first signs of this change are expected in the south of the country. From there, the showers gradually move towards other regions. It means that almost the whole of the Netherlands can face changeable circumstances.

First showers arise in Limburg
According to the KNMI, the first heavy showers are developing in the province of Limburg. That’s where it starts to turn first.

These showers can immediately turn out powerful. It is not about light rain, but about intensive showers that can bring a lot of water in a short time. There is also a chance of thunderstorms, which makes the situation extra dynamic.
