Following the tragic incident, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine her cause of death. As of now, there are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
Investigators spent hours collecting items and gathering evidence at the scene, according to WABC. They worked into the night behind a taped off area.
In a GoFundMe created by her daughter, Julissa Hernandez, Campbell Ortiz was revealed to be a mother of five children.
“Everyone is devastated,” Hernandez wrote while raising funds for her late mom’s funeral expenses. “Tanaya had not been herself recently, so seeing all of this unfold is hard to even understand, especially because we had just recently seen or spoken with her.”
“The shock of losing her this way has left our family heartbroken and struggling to face what comes next,” she continued. “Anyone who knew my mother knew that she was full of love and life, and did whatever she could to help everyone she loved.”
