British Columbia Mudslide Claims Three Lives, Leaves One Missing After Extreme Rainfall

Recovery Efforts Continue Following Deadly Landslide Near Lillooet

A devastating mudslide near Lillooet, British Columbia, has claimed the lives of three men and left a fourth person missing after extreme rainfall triggered a massive landslide along Highway 99 (Duffey Lake Road).

The tragedy occurred on November 15, when relentless rain and severe weather conditions caused unstable mountainsides to give way, sending mud, rocks, and debris across the highway. The incident is one of several destructive weather-related disasters that have affected southern British Columbia, causing widespread flooding, road closures, and significant damage to infrastructure.

Search and Recovery Operations

The fatalities were confirmed by B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe, who praised the dedication of emergency responders involved in the difficult recovery mission.

Recovery efforts continued over several days as search teams carefully worked through unstable terrain.

Authorities confirmed that:

  • The first victim was recovered on Monday.
  • A second victim was located on Wednesday.
  • Two additional victims were recovered on Thursday.
  • One individual remains missing.

Despite extensive search operations, officials announced that efforts to locate the missing person have been suspended after rescue teams exhausted all reasonable search options.
