What is the style of the 70’s?
While the 60โs were marked by the sexual revolution and the explosion of the miniskirt, the following decade was characterized by a different dynamic: that of emancipation and individual freedom. In an international context marked by the Vietnam War and the economic crises linked to the oil crises of 1973 and 1979, young people sought to escape and affirm new values. Fashion then became a real medium of expression.
Women appropriated garments previously reserved for men, such as costumes and oversize pants sets, symbols of independence and modernity. This appropriation of the male wardrobe resulted in bold and self-confident silhouettes, where comfort merges with elegance.
At the same time, the influence of the hippie movement and the “baba cool” trend is perceived strongly. Long dresses with floral prints, transparent blouses and natural fabrics reflect a search for freedom and connection with nature. The warm and earthy colors โ rust, brown, orange and purple โ predominate in the collections, creating warm and spontaneous looks.
Even today, this seventies spirit continues to inspire the big fashion houses. During numerous Fashion Weeks, designers revisit these retro codes, giving them a contemporary dimension. We especially remember certain collections where folk silhouettes, suede jackets and jeans looked were back in fashion. The neo-bourgeois style, fused with the hippie influence, offers a unique blend of sophistication and carefree.
