Described by his loved ones as “boundlessly generous,” Muldoon “loved animals as much as humans, offered unforgettable hugs and possessed that rare quality of making others feel safe and truly seen,” his friends said. “Elegant, charismatic and full of life, he approached each day with a resolutely rock ‘n’ roll spirit, at full intensity,” they said.
A star of the small screen: Madame est servie, Melrose Place…
William Patrick Muldoon III is a native of San Pedro, a coastal neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in a family where creativity was important: his parents, Deanna and William Patrick Muldoon II (a personal injury and maritime lawyer), were both interested in painting, writing and music. This environment nurtured in him a taste for the arts very early on. In his twenties, he turned to modeling and worked for Calvin Klein. His acting career began with small appearances on television, notably in popular series of the 1980s and 1990s such as Mrs. Is Served with Tony Danza and Palm Beach Underneath with Rob Estes.
He then made a name for himself in the soap opera Days of Our Lives, where he played the character of Austin Reed, a role that earned him significant recognition and a Soap Opera Digest Award for Best New Actor. With this visibility, he then went on to work on television projects and attracted the attention of Spelling Entertainment, which led him to join the series Melrose Place in the role of Richard Hart. At the same time, he began to appear in films, notably in Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers in 1997, where he played Zander Barcalow. Over the years, he alternated between television, independent films and productions for the TV movie market, with appearances in projects such as Vilaine, Black Cat Run and several productions for American television. He leaves behind his partner Miriam Rothbart. As well as an actress sister, Shana Muldoon. The latter is married to director Ahmet Zappa, former husband of Selma Blair and son of legendary musician Frank Zappa.
