Properties of dental herb in the treatment of cancer
: Antioxidants:
Extracts of dandelions, tested for their antioxidant properties on isolated human cells (in vitro), showed a neutralizing effect on free radicals. They also helped reduce DNA strand fractures. Moreover, leaf extracts are rich in polyphenols, which possess powerful antioxidant properties. Cancer is presumably caused by DNA damage due to free radicals. Antioxidants fight oxidative damage from free radicals by preventing their formation and neutralizing them before they can damage cells.
Vitamin K:
Dandelion and extracts of it are also rich in vitamin K. This is another reassuring fact, as this nutrient can significantly reduce the risk of cancer.
But how does this alternative herbal remedy perform in clinical trials? Most studies have been conducted in vitro – that is, on cells isolated from the body and tested under controlled laboratory conditions – or on animals. These results are positive. However, few clinical trials have been conducted in humans. Further clinical trials and research in humans are needed to definitively confirm the effectiveness of dandelion root in the treatment of cancer.
