Few household messes are as annoying as the sticky film left behind after removing a sticker, label, price tag, or piece of tape.
You peel the sticker away, but instead of a clean surface, you’re left with a stubborn layer of glue that seems determined to stay there.
Glass is especially frustrating because you want to remove the residue without scratching the surface or leaving behind another cloudy film.
Fortunately, there are several simple methods worth trying.
Start With Warm Soapy Water
If the adhesive isn’t extremely stubborn, begin with the gentlest option.
Mix warm water with a little dish soap and soak a cloth or sponge in the solution. Place it over the sticky area for several minutes to soften the adhesive.
Then gently wipe the glass.
For labels on jars, bottles, or removable glass objects, soaking the entire item in warm soapy water can make the process considerably easier.
Try Rubbing Alcohol
Rubbing alcohol can be effective against many types of adhesive residue.
Apply a small amount to a cloth or cotton pad rather than pouring it directly onto the glass.
Rub the residue gently until it begins to dissolve, then wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth.
For particularly stubborn residue, you may need to repeat the process several times.
Always test the alcohol on an inconspicuous area first if the glass has painted decorations, coatings, tinting, or other finishes.
